HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT?

 I am new to CrossFit and it's been less than a year since I joined. I walked into CrossFit Kakou at the beginning of a noon class as Ashley was starting warm-ups. She asked me to join and I was completely unprepared for how that moment would change my life. I had never lifted weights or done anything like this. My journey has been slow, coming 1-2 days a week and always skipping Thursday's. I now wake up ready for my noon workout and try to make it to 4 classes a week, even attending some Thursday classes.


WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO COME TO CROSSFIT? WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS?

The CrossFit Kakou community motivates me to keep coming back. I enjoy backpacking in the summer and CrossFit has helped keep me on the trails and exploring the outdoors. Continuing to build muscle and endurance will help keep me enjoying all my activities.


WHAT DOES CROSSFIT MEAN TO YOU?

 Honestly, it means everything. All I wanted was to come workout a few times a week and leave. Now I have a strong community of athletes and coaches that push me each workout.


WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TYPES OF WORKOUTS IN CROSSFIT?

 Squats, I apparently have good hip mobility. I have terrible shoulder mobility, but I also like power cleans. There is nothing better than throwing around heavy weight. 


COACH JUST GAVE YOU THE CONTROL FOR SPOTIFY – WHAT'S YOUR WORKOUT SONG OF CHOICE?

I am an old school 90's hard rock fan. Give me Metallica, Guns and Roses, with some Beastie Boys and I will have an amazing workout.

HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?

Since starting CrossFit, I have learned that I hate stairs! Starting a new routine has been tough, but I have improved and gained so much confidence this past year. Even with the challenges, CrossFit has provided me more balance and I feel like a better version of myself. I am definitely healthier, stronger, and have clear goals for the future. I still have a lot of work ahead, but I am excited to have support.

 

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEWBIE JOINING CROSSFIT KAKOU?  

 CrossFit can be overwhelming with all the technical movements and terminology, but there is a lot of support here. CrossFit Kakou has amazing athletes and coaches that provide a safe place for you to start your journey. No matter your skill level, there is always a modification available for a movement.
